An Almighty News Dump from ADS
One new book, one book birthday, one movie night, and lots of podcast episodes
There’s a lot to catch y’all up on, so let’s get right to it. (Please read all the way to the end!)
I am thrilled to announce that my next book, A DEEPER SOUTH: The Beauty, Mystery, and Sorrow of the Southern Road, will be published on May 21, 2024, and is already available for pre-order. Please go ahead and reserve your copy through The University of South Carolina Press!
A DEEPER SOUTH ROADSHOW, featuring seven of my short films from the Southern Road, will be screening at The Bo Bartlett Center in Columbus, Georgia on November 30 at 6:00pm. If you are in the area, please come on out. There will be a Q&A session following the screening, and a reception to follow. It’s all free! “The Bo” is a cultural gem in one of the most interesting cities in the South, so if you haven’t visited it yet, here’s your excuse to do so!
Today is the first birthday of my photography collection, THE ROAD TO UNFORGETTING: DETOURS IN THE AMERICAN SOUTH 1997-2022, which launched a year ago today at Citizen Vinyl in Asheville. If you haven’t ordered a copy (or if you have and want to do so again), here’s a little birthday present for you: today only, the book is a mere $30! So turn on the official playlist for the event and get on the ROAD!
THE DETOURIST podcast is back next week with FOUR new episodes. The DETOURIST is a virtual road trip through the American South, starting in the Mississippi Delta. The first episode from our launching point in Vicksburg, is available now. The next stops on our itinerary are: Glen Allan, Greenville, and Greenwood. We will be exploring the ever-meandering Mississippi River, meeting with the Percy family, and learning about a little-known waiter in Greenwood with a big story. Accompanying these forthcoming audio stories will be text versions, along with my photographs from each place. Listen and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Audible, or wherever you listen to your favorite shows.
Thanks, as ever, for being on this excursion with me. If you like what’s going on here, please share it around!
